Relevé Ladies

Relevé Ladies is a multi-award-winning kinetic art installation that celebrates the power of feminine expression and the freedom to live without fear. The installation consists of nine unique sculptures, each hand-carved from manzanita wood and adorned with found and donated materials such as rope, figurines, and beads. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of Kintsugi, the sculptures incorporate light that travels through and within the wood, illuminating areas where natural imperfections—such as insect damage, disease scars, or other deformities—have shaped the surface. Designed for interactivity, each piece can be moved freely, allowing participants to engage with them as they navigate the circle.

Each Relevé Ladies sculpture stands approximately 10 feet tall and 24 inches wide, with an installation footprint that can expand up to 30 feet in diameter.

A recipient of the 2024 Burning Man Honorarium Grant, Relevé Ladies has been experienced by thousands at the 2024 Burning Man event in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, as well as at the 2024 Something Queer retreat in Northern California. Beyond festival exhibitions, the series has been showcased at Venice Afterburn 2024, the Torrance Art Museum, and private events throughout the Los Angeles area.

Originally conceived as sculptural studies for my 2022 installation Relevé—which debuted at Radical Horizons: The Art of Burning Man at Chatsworth House in the UK—Relevé Ladies has since evolved into an awe-inspiring series. Looking ahead, the installation is scheduled to return to the 2025 Something Queer event, along with additional exhibitions in Los Angeles.
