“Relevé” was a temporary art installation that exhibited at the Chatsworth House during the summer of 2022 as part of the Radical Horizons exhibition. Designed to ritualistically burn at the close of the event, myself and 18 other women executed the ignition on October 1st, 2022. Inspired by an ancient story surrounding the mystery of a bronze era archeological site located in the Peats District called the 9 Ladies Stone Circle. According to the legend, 9 ladies were caught dancing at that location on the Sabbath and were turned into stone. Relevé not only explored the historical use of children’s folklore as a brainwashing technique about female oppression, it also explored the power of femininity and ritual. All that remains of Relevé are manzanita sculptures and mixed media pieces as well as video and photography documentation. I can not be confirm nor deny that facade pieces removed from the structure the night before the burn exist in private collections around the world.
